SPROUT PLANT A TREE

A portion of orders over $80 may go towards planting a mangrove tree in Madagascar to offset carbon via The Eden Reforestation project

Why Trees matter

The trees we plant with Eden Reforestation Projects support wildlife diversity, improve coastlines, provided meaningful wages to indigenous population and grow Mangrove trees which are an incredible carbon sink.

Impact of planting Mangrove trees:

Mangroves are unique ecosystems found throughout a wide range in the tropics and occupying the intertidal areas of more than 120 countries. Mangroves, and coastal wetlands in general, are globally important for the many services they provide to humans and the planet. These services include protection against storm surges, sheltering nurseries for fish and other marine life, providing building materials, firewood, and providing critically important services to stabilizing the global climate as an important store of carbon

Mangroves, an incredible carbon sink:

With the rapid increase in greenhouse gas emissions over the last century, the need for enduring carbon sinks has grown. The latest models suggest that to remain within “acceptable” global temperature increase, it is no longer enough to simply reduce emissions, and protect existing forests, but rather that we need to rapidly increase the ability to sequester carbon. Globally, mangrove systems are estimated to hold an astounding 20 petagrams of carbon. For a biome representing less than 5% of the world’s terrestrial area, this makes mangroves one of the most important carbon stocks, even more than many rainforests like the Amazon. Equally, as a relatively fast-growing group of species, mangroves sequester carbon at a very fast rate.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Can the coffee packaging be recycled?

Unfortunately, coffee packaging cannot be recycled due to the foil lining that is necessary to keep the coffee fresh.

However, we are looking into sustainable packaging in the coming future! In this field, technology is advancing to provide primary packaging material that is not only recyclable, but also maintains the freshness of the coffee.

What does coffee intensity mean?

The intensity of a coffee is determined by the degree of roasting and the flavour of the specific varietal bean in the blend. Harvest timing and seasonal conditions can also influence the taste of the coffee beans.

How do I store my coffee so it stays fresh?

Once opened, we recommend storing the coffee in an air-tight container in a cool, dry, dark location.

We do not recommend storing your coffee in the fridge or freezer as extreme temperature fluctuation can alter the state and taste of the coffee.

Can I buy Oxfam fair coffee and drinking chocolate in supermarkets?

GENERAL INFORMATION

Current Global Industry Impacts & Price Increase - March 2023

Over the last couple of years, the coffee market has recently been impacted by a number of environmental factors, including climate change and natural disasters, which have led to a decrease in coffee production and an increase in costs. In addition, global inflation has also contributed to rising costs across the industry.

As a result, it is unavoidable that prices will increase by approx 8% effective 3rd April 2023.

We understand that this may be inconvenient for some of our customers, but we hope you can appreciate that these changes are necessary to maintain the quality and sustainability of our products via our certification credentials with Fairtrade ANZ and Australian Organic.

We remain committed to providing you with the highest quality coffee possible, while also supporting our Fair farmers and suppliers in their efforts to mitigate the impacts of environmental changes on their operations.
